Wooden Shell Herreshoff Pulley Blocks

For strength, low friction and ease of handling, the blocks of Herreshoff Yacht Fittings (HYF) provide the authenticity,  beauty, and function of Nat Herreshoff’s genius.  The only alterations are of fabric, not form. Modern high strength stainless steel is employed replacing mild steel. Modern sheaves with enhanced bearing materials or alternatively state-of-the-art roller/ball bearing sheaves are employed. Thus, friction is reduced to enhance handling of important rigging components such as backstays and sheets or for other purposes, thus serving to benefit performance and improve safety.

More specifically, following the HMCo. construction utilizing eastern white ash shells (cheeks), bronze sheaves, steel pins and galvanized steel straps (bindings), HYF incorporates the following in its pulley blocks: High quality white ash, still readily available replicates the original shapes accurately. Stainless steel metal parts are formed into the original configurations with suitable analysis and proof of strength. Visible straps and pins are polished, bead blasted, or powder coated to suit the preference of customers. The original pin positioning medallions are replaced by polished bronze medallions bearing the H logo of Herreshoff Yacht Fittings, LLC.
